What Is Underfilled Assist?

ShurSEAL® Underfilled Assist (UA) is a packaging line enhancement feature designed to prevent case jamming and tape faults during automated sealing — especially when dealing with lightweight, thin-walled or underfilled cartons.

If your operation handles irregular or high-void-fill boxes (typically seen in eCommerce shipments), UA keeps things running smoothly by reducing the downward force on the carton while maintaining optimal wipe-down pressure for a secure seal. This allows even difficult-to-automate packaging scenarios to be handled seamlessly.

How ShurSEAL® Underfilled Assist Works

Integrated directly into the ShurSEAL automated tape applicator, UA is a pneumatic add-on designed to overcome one of the toughest challenges in automated case sealing: processing underfilled, lightweight or void-filled cartons without causing jams or compromising tape wipe-down.

Here’s how it works:

Pneumatic Precision

UA uses a pneumatic cylinder to dynamically adjust the pressure applied to the case. When a carton is sensed, the system automatically reduces excessive resistance, which is typically built into standard applicators for uniform, full cartons.

Smarter Wipe-Down

While UA reduces force on the carton’s surface, it still maintains optimal contact between the wipe-down mechanism and the tape, ensuring complete adhesion and a clean, secure seal every time.

Low-Impact Design

By preventing excess downward force, UA protects carton integrity, especially important for tall, tip-prone or thin-walled boxes.

Plug-and-Play Compatibility

UA is a modular upgrade for ShurSEAL systems, requiring only an air connection and minimal setup. It fits seamlessly into most automated case sealing machines with no major equipment overhaul.
