what is the difference between line set tape and other HVAC tapes

HVAC tapes are subjected to a wide range of conditions throughout the life cycles of the systems they seal – between hanging out in sub-freezing temperatures throughout snowy Winters and sweating it out during sweltering Summers, only the toughest materials are up for the task. Even so, most HVAC tapes are intended for indoor use, and while they are often used in unconditioned spaces that cycle through extreme temperature ranges, they are still sheltered from some of the elements that exist in outdoor settings.

Line set tape is a solution for HVAC components that are kept outdoors, such as the air condenser unit and the connecting hoses. There are several differences that make line set tape stand out from traditional foil tapes for indoor HVAC use.

Line set tape is resistant to:

  • UV rays
  • Humidity and moisture
  • A wide range of temperatures

While many traditional HVAC tapes are made to withstand the fluctuating temperatures in unconditioned spaces, line set tape has additional durability to allow it to perform well no matter what the weather brings.

Line set tape is also constructed differently than the types of HVAC tapes that are used on indoor components and duct work. It is made with a BOPP film backing, which offers more conformability than a foil tape, which makes it easier to wrap around hoses and other exterior HVAC system components. Line set tape does not require a release liner, making it quick and easy to apply.

Ultimately, line set tape exists to meet the need for a durable, reliable, and easy-to-use tape for sealing outdoor HVAC components. It is engineered for this specific purpose, making it a toolbox essential for HVAC professionals.
