Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some FAQs to help you get started using BR Code™ Scannable Solutions

What is BR Code™ Scannable Solutions?

BR Code Scannable Solutions is powered by the BitRip® app and is a one-of-a-kind digital storage system that connects digital data to physical assets in seconds. Some popular uses include: tagging tools with a code for tracking and accountability or storing maintenance documents, safety records and training video links on physical objects. Need to update information? Your information can be managed anywhere, at anytime with the BitRip app.

How do BR Code™ tapes or labels store data?

BR Code tapes or labels contain preprinted, scannable codes that work like barcodes. Scanning a unique code on the tape or label automatically opens a “container” in the BitRip app where you can store an unlimited amount of digital information. When someone else scans the tape with the app, the unique code acts like a key to unlock the container that allows the user to see the information tagged to that unique tape or label, unless it is in a private project on the BitRip app.

How much data can be stored on a single code?

There is no limit. All the information is stored in the cloud, so one BR Code tape or label can store an unlimited amount of digital information.

Does the digital pattern on each BR Code tape or label ever duplicate?

No. Every code is 100% unique.

How much tape is required to successfully scan?

All BR Code tapes and labels are perforated. Each individual code will scan successfully.

Is this a QR Code? If not, what's the difference?

No, BR Code tapes and labels are not QR Codes. BR Code tapes and labels are completely fluid and flexible! They are preprinted on a roll and can be immediately deployed in the field so you can easily assign digital assets, links and more to any BR Code tape or label at any time. QR Codes, on the other hand, are assigned to a single web address, must be configured and printed before deploying in the field and are not as durable as BR Code tapes or labels.

For more details, check out our QR Code vs. BR Code™ Comparison chart.

What happens if a code goes missing? Is the data lost?

No, the information is never lost since it is stored in the cloud. To replace a lost code, simply stick a replacement code on the physical object, scan the code and connect it to the same digital information in seconds.

Where is the data stored?

Information on the BitRip app is stored in the Google Cloud.

Does the BitRip app actively track a code's GPS location?

No, the app uses passive tracking. This means the GPS location will be updated every time the code is scanned.

Can you check-in and check-out equipment with BR Code scannable tapes and labels?

Yes, each time a BR Code tape or label is scanned, it registers who scanned it, the time and the geolocation (similar to setting a pin on your phone). It’s a great way to track tools and other equipment.

Can I choose who can scan my codes?

Yes. You can put your labels in a project and make the project private. The BR Code tapes or labels in private projects can only be accessed by project members.

Can I scan codes with my phone camera or do I need the BitRip app?

For an added layer of security and access control, you need the BitRip app to scan the codes. A regular phone camera will not pick up this proprietary code.

How much does the BitRip app cost?

The BitRip mobile app is free!

Do you offer a computer-based version of the BitRip app?
Yes. Desktop Pro is the web-app platform for BitRip. The Desktop Pro app offers automation, reporting and administrative capabilities. After a 30-day free trial, the Desktop Pro version costs $90/user per month.
